JET
Asia
was
set up by Damian Taylor (right), a Fellow of the Royal Geographical
Society, with the aim of providing comprehensive team development
courses and practical expedition training and for Expedition Teams,
Corporate Businesses and individuals.
Damian
spent the first 21 years of his life in Africa prior to joining
the British Army as an Infantry Officer in 1987. Most of his army
service was spent overseas, with tours to Belize, Kenya, Cyprus,
Northern Ireland, Italy and Brunei. He specialized in Jungle Training,
and was an instructor at the British Army's Jungle Warfare Training
School in Brunei.
Upon
leaving the army as a Captain in 1995, he joined Trekforce Expeditions,
a company specializing in youth development and rainforest conservation.
As a full time expedition leader he successfully led and supervised
expeditions to Kalimantan, Java, Sumatra, Belize, Sabah and Kenya
prior to becoming Managing Director-a position he held until setting
up JET Asia in 2000.
WHERE
ARE WE?
JET Asia has its operational centre at
the Turi
Beach Resort on the island of Batam. Batam is one of some 3,200
islands that make up the Indonesian Riau Archipelago, and some of
South East Asia's best preserved rain forests and coral reefs can
be found here.
Batam is a 25 minute sea ferry journey from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal
in Singapore, and ferries sail every 2 hours between Singapore and
Nongsapura Ferry Terminal in Batam. Singapore's Changi International
Airport has regular daily flights from the UK, Europe, Australia
and all main South East Asian cities and also has the advantage
of being a pivotal point for onward flights throughout the Far East
for those traveling on to join expeditions or to travel on after
the courses.
