"Papua
New Guinea was an amazing experience and I long to return, although
my time there was brought to a short conclusion, when my life was
threatened
and I had to be airlifted to safety off the Kokoda Trail.
I was praised by
the British High Commission for the safety procedures I had put into
place
before leaving and on the equipment I had with me.
I
wonder if you thought I would really need the jungle training I
did with
you,...it may just have saved my life!".

TROPICAL
EMERGENCY SURVIVAL COURSE
Next
Course Dates:
12-19 Feb 2005
27 Aug - 03 Sep 2005
The
Course
We run an 8-day Emergency Survival and Leadership
Course, aimed at those who work in tropical areas of the world,
either in corporate business, government or the travel and expedition
business.
The course is designed to teach the essential skills required
to survive unforeseen circumstances or events. The first night
will be spent in Batam, before travelling down to Lingga Island,
some 150 kilometres to the south of Batam. Lingga is the ideal
setting for the course, and with the exception of a couple of
small towns and fishing villages, remains pretty much uninhabited.
There are only 6 vehicles on the entire island and the inland
area is totally uninhabited, being home to virgin, primary rainforest.
Upon arrival in Lingga, the first 2 days learning specialist survival
skills, and then putting them into practice on a 4 day / 3 night
practical survival exercise, using only the contents of your survival
kits and machete. Skills taught will include:
Water
- The most essential element of any survival situation,
you will learn about water collection and sources, as well as
purification methods - both modern and improvised.
Shelter
-
Construction of jungle shelters made from natural materials.
Fire
- Fire building using ancient and modern fire starting
skills.
Signaling
- If you want to be found, you need to be seen.
You will be taught how to attract the attention of search parties.
Navigation
- techniques for navigating, both with and without
the compass.
Equipment
- essential equipment for survival.
Food
- Food procurement from both flora and fauna. Traps,
fishing and edible plants. Also emergency medicinal sources.
Leadership
skills - to include team-building
and key leadership techniques. Group loyalty and identity. Confidence
based on knowledge.
Emergency
procedures - How to deal with
accidents and emergencies.
NB
This will be a very arduous and tiring course
both mentally and physically, so students need to be physically
fit, and prepared to face up to the rigors of this beautiful but
challenging environment.

"The
course was probably one of the best I have attended in its organisation,
the amount learned and the environment in which it was set.
Lingga was beautiful- totally unspoilt and a brilliant location. Damian
himself is a superb teacher, and draws on a wealth of jungle and leadership
knowledge to illustrate the points he raises.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who will send you a note to this effect,
as I know the entire course found it an extremely rewarding experience"
